Billing
Plan for your workspace subscription, email volume and AI usage as separate components. Each workspace has its own plan and balance; a paid seat belongs to a person with edit access in that workspace. Admins manage billing and review usage.
Open Settings, then Billing under Workspace settings. The page is called Billing & Usage and has two tabs: Overview for your plan, balance and invoices, and Usage for where the money went. Settings, Plans puts Free and Premium side by side with a monthly and annual toggle.
AI usage is priced in credits. One credit is one unit of your workspace billing currency. The prices on this page are the same number in every currency maxclicks bills in (USD, EUR and GBP): your billing country picks which one you pay in, and there is no currency switch in the app.
What you get on Free
- 100 emails a month. A hard cap. Sending stops at zero and you are never charged for going over. Test sends count: Send test in the email editor is a real send, so it needs a verified domain and a sender, it comes off the same allowance, and it stops working once the allowance is gone. The allowance resets on your space's monthly anniversary, not on the first of the calendar month, and unused emails do not carry over.
- Unlimited contacts and objects. Free is never billed for records and never capped on them.
- 5 credits, once. They arrive the moment your first sending domain verifies. They never reset, and you cannot buy more.
- The whole product: maxinja, workflows, broadcasts, forms, CSV import, everything.
- A small maxclicks badge in the footer of every email you send and every hosted form you publish.
The Free plan grants 5 credits once, when the first sending domain is verified. Eligible new workspaces can receive funded maxinja setup assistance before that point. Ordinary AI generation, previews and workflow execution still require available credits.
What Premium costs
Premium is a base subscription, one seat for every member who can edit, and record packs once you pass 5,000 records. A record is a contact or an object, and the two share the same allowance.
| Monthly | Annual (20% off, prepaid) | |
|---|---|---|
| Base plan | $49 per month | $470 per year |
| Member seat, each | $20 per month | $192 per year |
| Record pack, per 1,000 over 5,000 | $7 per month | $67.20 per year |
With one editing seat, the entry subscription is $69 per month or $662 per year.
Both intervals include 5,000 records and 1,000,000 emails a month. The email allowance is a flat number: it does not grow or shrink with the size of your list. It resets on your space's monthly anniversary exactly as the Free allowance does, and it stays monthly even on the annual plan (so do the per-seat credits below). Emails past it cost $0.12 per 1,000, taken from your credit balance rather than added to the invoice. Broadcasts, workflow emails, API sends and test sends all draw on this one allowance.
A part-used record pack is charged in full, so one record past 5,000 costs a whole $7 pack.
Premium also removes the maxclicks badge from your emails and forms, and adds the cost breakdown, member spending trends and invoices.
Premium is called Pro on the marketing site. They are the same plan.
Who takes a seat
Only members who can edit take a paid seat, which means the Member and Admin roles. A Non-paid Admin can run billing and manage people but cannot create content, and costs nothing. See members.
Every paid seat comes with $10 of credits a month, half the seat price. Those credits are replaced at the monthly reset rather than added to, so they do not roll over, and eligible member-driven work, such as that person's maxinja session, spends the member allowance before the space wallet. Background campaigns and workflows use the workspace balance; they do not pool every teammate's unused credits.
Your first upgrade also grants $5 of welcome credits, once per space. Cancelling and resubscribing does not repeat it.
Monthly or annual
Monthly moves with you. Add a seat or cross a record threshold and the next invoice goes up. Remove a seat or shed records and it goes down.
Annual is prepaid for the year and everything shares one renewal date. Grow mid-term and maxclicks charges the difference straight away, prorated to the part of the term that is left. Reductions apply at renewal, not before.
To switch between the two, cancel and subscribe again on the other interval.
What credits pay for
Credits cover everything that is not part of the subscription: maxinja conversations, template and broadcast generation, Adaptyle personalization on every recipient, every step a workflow run executes (not only the AI ones), describing the images you add to a brand kit, and emails past your allowance.
You are charged for what a task actually consumes, so a short one costs a fraction of a credit. maxclicks marks up what it pays the AI provider by 1.6x on the heavy work (generation, personalization, workflow runs) and 1.2x on emails past your allowance.
A few operations carry a small fixed fee on top of that, for the cost that is not tokens: generating an email template is $0.015, dispatching a broadcast $0.03, each maxinja exchange $0.002, and each step a workflow run executes $0.00005. That last one is why a delay or an HTTP request in a workflow still costs something, even though it spends no AI at all. Nothing billed per recipient carries a fee, so sending a template through the API costs nothing per send by itself: what you pay for is the personalization inside it and any emails past your allowance.
Workflows also have an active execution ceiling: 1,000 plus 20 for every object record in the workspace. Work beyond that capacity waits for its turn; durable sleeping delays do not hold an execution slot for their whole wait. This limit controls simultaneous work, not its total eventual cost. See workflow billing.
Read the campaign estimate
The email composer's Estimate brings together generation, possible corrections, pilot and continuing reviews, sending and campaign charges when applicable. Check the audience size, model and generation assumptions behind it. A blank or unknown amount does not mean free work, and a duration without calibrated evidence is not a delivery commitment.
Usage already incurred remains usage if a campaign is cancelled, fails qualification or is stopped. A successful sample preview does not eliminate per-recipient generation and review costs. Use a representative sample, keep exact facts in ordinary copy or Liquid, and leave room in the wallet for the work already queued.
Topping up your balance
Only a Premium space with an active subscription can add credits. The Credits Balance card is on the Overview tab.
Add Credits takes whole dollars, from $10 to $10,000. If your bank asks for 3-D Secure, you are prompted for it during the charge.
Enable auto reload lets the workspace add credits when its balance reaches a configured threshold. Review the payment method and threshold against expected campaign and workflow usage. You give it two numbers, both in dollars:
- When credit balance reaches: the trigger point. maxclicks stores it as a percentage of the reload amount, so what is accepted moves with that amount: never more than half of it, and never below the smallest 5% step of it that is worth at least $20. A $40 reload can only trigger at $20, and a $1,000 reload cannot trigger below $50.
- Bring credit balance back up to: the reload amount. At least $40.
When the balance falls to the trigger, maxclicks charges the reload amount, or whatever multiple of it is needed to clear the threshold in one go.
Premium balances include a limited negative-credit buffer, based on the balance reached after charging. A displayed zero is therefore not a reliable emergency stop. Once no credits are available, new operations may be refused while durable broadcast and workflow work can wait for funding. Use the campaign stop or workflow pause controls when your intention is to stop the work itself.
Seeing where the money went
The Overview tab carries four meters across the top: Members, Records, Credits and Emails. Records, Credits and Emails each open a View usage drill-down. Members offers Manage seats instead, which takes you to the member list.
The Usage tab is the detailed view. Filter by date range, set granularity to daily, weekly or monthly, group by category or by member, and narrow to AI Assistant, Email Templates, Broadcasts, Workflows or Other. It answers "who spent this" and "on what", which is usually the question behind a surprising invoice.
Invoices live in their own card on the Overview tab, each downloadable as a PDF. Free spaces have no invoices.
When a send or an AI call is refused
In the app you will see sending stop and a warning about the balance. If you are calling the API, the same two situations come back as a 402:
insufficient_credits: available credits are at zero on an AI call, or on a create that would trigger an AI auto-fill.email_limit_reached: the space's email allowance is used up.
Waiting is different from failed
A broadcast or workflow can park when it cannot obtain credits and continue once credits become available. An exhausted Free email allowance is a different limit, and invalid content, suppressed recipients or an unverified sender do not become valid because you topped up. Inspect the campaign or run reason before creating replacement work.
Use Usage to review spending by category and member. Background work may appear under System, without a person attached. This view is not a per-campaign or per-step invoice: use the campaign's emails and the workflow's run history to understand what executed.
Cancelling Premium
Cancel subscription is on the plan card. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you already paid for: the space keeps Premium until that date, and Resume subscription brings it back any time before then.
When the subscription actually ends, the space returns to Free. Credits you paid for are carried across into the Free balance, so nothing you bought is lost. The 100-emails-a-month cap and its monthly reset come back, you cannot buy more credits until you re-subscribe, and the one-time 5-credit Free gift is not granted again.
